Taking on any design project can be stressful and overwhelming. I try to make the process as enjoyable and stress-free as possible bringing my experience to each project, creating something unique and individual.
Step 1: Let’s get together to chat about the brief.
This is an important moment in the project. It’s at this stage I hope to ‘connect’ with my client and the project. I ask questions, but mostly I listen in order to develop the brief. I will also endeavour to answer any questions you may have about items such as planning applications, services, timescale, fees etc… Following our first meeting you will probably know whether or not I’m the right person to carry out your project.
Step 2 Concept Design
Following a survey or the acquisition of the relevant drawings we can start the Concept Design. This will firstly involve the planning of the space followed by interior and exterior visuals, samples / mood boards etc. which will help explain the feel of the space. Once the Concept Design is complete we can normally make any necessary planning applications. As designers we have a huge responsibility to tread on the world lightly. I am very interested in alternative forms of low-carbon construction and recycled materials, and am constantly seeking out new methods, techniques and suppliers. I enjoy marrying new and old methods of construction and would be happy to discuss these ideas with you on your project.
Step 3 Technical Drawings
The technical drawings stage is about working through the nuts and bolts and details of the interior design and producing something that reflects the budget and can be priced accurately by the contractor. These drawings will also be submitted into building control.
Step 4 Site Meetings
Once a project has been priced and a contractor chosen we can commence with the fitting out of the site. I am happy to come to site for weekly meetings or on a more ad hoc basis. Once the site is near completion I would always recommend that myself, the client and the site foreman take a walk around and compile a snagging list. Once the snagging items are completed and all of the commissioning certificates are issued we can hand the site back to the client.
